For Dan Brown · 17 Sept 2026

Half the posts I'm seeing today are actually about the professor up at Northwestern, not the novelist. Confusing morning. Either way I still remember a line from Angels & Demons, something like 'the church has always used art and science to fight its battles,' and it stuck with me on a long flight to Toronto years back. Hope the real Dan Brown is just having a quiet Thursday somewhere.

For Ratnakar Mahajan · 12 Sept 2026

Watched him on TV analysis panels for years. Never raised his voice, never needed to. Just laid out the thinking, clear and fair. That kind of calm is rare in politics anywhere.

For Frances Stonor Saunders · 6 Sept 2026

I remember her talking about her allotment on the radio. She had this wonderful way of making you feel like she was thinking out loud with you, not at you. Extraordinary broadcaster.

For Milan Ohnisko · 3 Sept 2026

What a loss. Milan was the kind of editor who made you want to be better. He believed every word mattered, and he lived that belief every single day of his life. A true friend to writers and to freedom.

For John Lewis · 6 Aug 2025

Watched him speak at a gallery benefit in Calgary about ten years ago. The quiet power in that man. He talked about art as witness. I think about that conversation still.

Those records still hold up. Real rock and roll never gets old.
