Found out he voiced Curly Joe in the old Three Stooges cartoon and just sat here stunned. My grandmother in Sao Paulo used to put that on for me every summer when I was a kid, the dubbed version, never knew whose voice that was until today. 95 years old, what a run.

Bought Birding Colorado years before I ever set foot in the state, just to read how someone could care that much about where a bird nests. He wrote, near the front of it, something like "the joy is in the looking, not just the list." Never forgot that.

Never followed Alliance politics closely but I remember reading he stuck with that council president job for a decade straight, through health and all, before finally stepping down last year. That kind of steadiness in local government is rare.

Never met him, just read about this on Streetsblog. Eight grandchildren is the number that stuck with me.

My mum played Ring n' Roll constantly when I was growing up. I didn't know much about Catherine then, just that the songs were impossibly cool. Reading about her life now, all the hardship, all the reinvention, all the defiance. She was extraordinary.

His book on how Oscar got its name settled something I'd wondered about for years. Scholarship done right, the kind that makes you see something you thought you knew in a whole new light. He'll be missed by people who never knew his name.

The black fedora, the willingness to stand at the centre of controversy and not look away. He believed the public deserved to see the truth of human anatomy without filters. That takes courage.
