I was literally mid chapter of his Austerlitz book when I saw this. Been slowly working through it for my own napoleonic wars rabbit hole and his writing made Slavkov feel like I was standing there. Didn't expect to feel this sad over someone I never knew existed a year ago.

I don't really know what to say. I found The Brain a few years back during a deep dive into old European films and that balcony scene with the song playing just stuck with me. Eighty years old. Strange how someone can stop acting at the peak of it and you still feel like you lost something.

My grandparents lived outside Moncton and every summer visit meant seeing those Armour trucks lined up at the yard off the highway. Didn't know the name behind them until years later. 81 is a long run to build something like that from one farm truck.
