Ahmad Nategh-Nouri

Ahmad Nategh-Nouri was born around 1937, corresponding to the Iranian solar year 1316, in the village of Ozkola in Nur County, Mazandaran. He belonged to the Nategh-Nouri family of Nur. His brothers included Ali-Akbar Nategh-Nouri, later a major conservative politician and speaker of the Majlis, and Abbas-Ali Nategh-Nouri, who was killed and whom Ahmad succeeded in a 1981 midterm parliamentary election. Nategh-Nouri represented Nur and Mahmudabad in the Islamic Consultative Assembly across seven terms: the first and then the third through eighth Majlis, excluding the second term. He first took the seat in the 1981 midterm election. Parallel to that legislative career he rebuilt Iranian boxing after its post-revolution suspension. From 1989 to 2017 he served as president of the Boxing Federation of Iran. Reports of his death credit those years with a strong period for the sport in Iran, including a visit by Muhammad Ali. In 2005 he also chaired the board of Saipa Roadside Assistance, according to Persian Wikipedia.

Public sources identify him as the elder brother of Ali-Akbar Nategh-Nouri. His son Hamidreza Nategh-Nouri studied at the University of Essex in England, taught political science at Islamic Azad University's Tehran Central Branch, and was named Iran's ambassador-designate to Bulgaria before declining the posting. Beyond those family details, reputable coverage of his death focused on his public roles rather than private life.

Ahmad Nategh-Nouri died on the morning of 25 September 2026 after years of illness, aged 89. Hamshahri Online, Tabnak, ISNA and related Iranian outlets announced the death the same day. President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a message of condolence naming him a veteran of the Majlis and of sports administration. Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and former president Hassan Rouhani also offered public tributes, the latter addressed to Ali-Akbar Nategh-Nouri. Funeral ceremonies were set for 27 September in Nur and for 28 September at Shiroudi Stadium in Tehran.

Nategh-Nouri is remembered in Iranian reporting as the deputy who held Nur and Mahmudabad through much of the Islamic Republic's early decades and as the long-serving federation president who restored boxing after its suspension. Condolence messages from national leaders after his death singled out both the parliamentary record and his role in developing Iranian boxing.
