André Höhl was a German dancer, cabaret performer and actor, best known as a soloist with the Deutsches Fernsehballett, the television ballet company whose glamorous routines were a fixture of light entertainment in East Germany and, after reunification, on MDR, ARD and ZDF.

He was born on 29 May 1967 in Leipzig and grew up near the city. After finishing school he trained in classical ballet, pas de deux, jazz dance and Spanish folk dance at the State Ballet School in Leipzig, appearing on stage at the Leipzig Opera while still a student and competing in dance competitions across the GDR. He graduated with a state examination in dance and took a second state examination in literature.

From 1986 he spent three years in a permanent engagement at the Leipzig Opera. In the summer of 1989 he moved to the television ballet of GDR television, the company that danced on shows such as Ein Kessel Buntes, and he was soon made a soloist. When GDR television closed at the end of 1991 the company's future was uncertain, but it was relaunched under MDR in 1992 and he continued as a soloist in productions for MDR, ARD and ZDF. Over the years he partnered Marika Rökk, as her last dance partner, as well as Ute Lemper, Dagmar Frederic, Helga Hahnemann, Marlène Charell, Helene Fischer, Dagmar Koller and Stefanie Hertel, and he also choreographed programmes for young dance ensembles.

From 2007 he showed a comic talent as well. He appeared as an actor in MDR's Langer Samstag, performed alongside the cabaret artist Katrin Weber in the MDR New Year's Eve show of 2007, and joined Tom Pauls, Bernd-Lutz Lange and Gunter Böhnke on Der große Witze-Abend in 2008. From early 2009 he was one of the regular guests in Katrin Weber's MDR sketch show Wie witzig, Frau Weber!

André Höhl was found dead by friends in his flat in Berlin-Friedrichshain on 25 October 2026. He was 59. The exact date and the cause of his death were not made public. Colleagues including Stefanie Hertel paid tribute to him, and the Berliner Kurier remembered him as a soloist who did not just dance with the stars but was one himself.

My mom called me about this, said she used to watch him on the German channel when she lived in Berlin. Never seen the clips myself but she described the Marika Rökk dance like she just watched it yesterday.
