Antonio Ramírez Gálmez was a Spanish goalkeeper from Castellón de la Plana whose career took him through Valencia CF, Hércules CF and Real Murcia before he came home to play for CD Castellón. He was in goal for the Castellón side that won promotion from Tercera División to Segunda División in the 1965-66 season, a squad the club still remembers. He died in October 2026 at the age of 91.
Born in Castellón on 17 February 1935, Ramírez started in provincial football with Atlético Saguntino before moving to CD Mestalla, Valencia's reserve side, where he played in Segunda División at just 18. He was promoted to Valencia's first team under coach Carlos Iturraspe at 20, which was young for a goalkeeper at the time. Over two seasons he played seven official matches for Valencia, but the club preferred the experienced Timor in goal.
In 1957 he moved to Hércules in Alicante, where he found the regular football he had lacked, playing close to 60 official matches in Segunda División over four seasons. In the summer of 1961 he joined Real Murcia and was first choice throughout 1961-62. After José Manuel Llopis arrived as coach in 1962 he lost his place to José García Campillo, but he stayed in the squad and was part of the Murcia team that won promotion to Primera División in 1963.
He then returned to his home city. According to the club history En el escudo de tu Historia by Conrado Marín and Miguel Ángel Serer, he played 34 matches for Castellón in 1965-66, the season the club climbed out of Tercera División. He stayed until 1968, making 71 appearances in all, before retiring and settling in Castellón. Two of his sons, Alberto and Carlos Ramírez, later also played for Castellón.
In June 2016 the club marked the 50th anniversary of that promotion with a tribute before a match against Atlético Malagueño, and Ramírez was one of seven former players who confirmed they would attend, alongside Pedro Alcañiz, Cela, Pascual Babiloni, Tobalo, Ricardo Arranz and Manuel Folch.
His death at 91 was reported by Mediterráneo and Sport on 8 October 2026, which described him as one of the protagonists of the club's history. No cause of death was made public.
