Daniel Stewart was an Australian rules footballer who played 36 games as a key forward for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League between 2010 and 2013. Standing 200 centimetres, he kicked 31 goals for the Power, including four in a single match in his debut season. He died suddenly on 23 October 2026, a week before his 38th birthday.
Born on 30 October 1988, Stewart played junior representative football with the Eastern Ranges in the TAC Cup before moving to Queensland, where he played for Labrador in the AFL Queensland competition. In 2008 he crossed to South Australia to join North Adelaide in the SANFL, and his form there led Port Adelaide to select him with pick 35 in the 2009 Rookie Draft.
He spent the 2009 season developing at North Adelaide and was elevated to Port Adelaide's senior list at the end of that year. After a strong 2010 NAB Cup he made his AFL debut against Geelong in round four of the 2010 season, wearing the number 43. He played 11 games and kicked 12 goals that year, finishing with a career-best four goals against Richmond in the final round. He added 12 games in each of 2011 and 2012, also taking a share of the ruck work, but managed only one appearance in 2013 and was delisted at the end of that season.
After football Stewart built a business, according to his former teammate Kane Cornes, and kept a close friendship with fellow former Power player Matt Thomas. He was married to Laura, and they had two sons, Bernie and Lando.
Port Adelaide announced on 24 October 2026 that Stewart had died the previous day, aged 37. The club described the death as sudden and did not give a cause. Chief executive Matthew Richardson said the news had come as a shock to everyone at the club and that Stewart "was part of the Port Adelaide football family, and he always will be." Cornes called it "a true tragedy" and remembered "a brilliant and caring teammate who always had a smile on his face." The club said its players would wear black armbands at their first home game at Adelaide Oval in 2027.
