Just read this during my coffee and had to sit with it a minute. I found Pe na Cova a few years back through subtitled clips online and Luz Divina made me laugh out loud more than most anything on American TV. 82 years old, six decades of work. That's a life.

Eliana Rocha was a Brazilian stage, television and film actress and writer whose career spanned six decades, from the São Paulo theatre of the 1960s to television comedy in the 2010s. She was best known to television audiences as Luz Divina in the TV Globo comedy series Pé na Cova (2013 to 2016), created by her longtime friend and collaborator Miguel Falabella. She died in São Paulo on 3 November 2026, aged 82.
She was born in Santos, in the state of São Paulo, in April 1944, and trained in both law and theatre. After moving to the city of São Paulo she also worked as a proofreader and text editor, a parallel career in publishing that she kept for the rest of her life. She made her stage debut in the mid 1960s in O Cristo Nu, directed by Carlos Alberto Soffredini, and in 1974 she was among the founders, with Jandira Martini, Ney Latorraca and others, of the theatre group Royal Bexiga's Company.
Essentially a woman of the theatre, she appeared in more than thirty plays, working with directors including Flávio Rangel, Irene Ravache, Gianni Ratto, José Possi Neto, Daniel Filho and Miguel Falabella, whose staging of A Gaiola das Loucas she joined in 2011. She also performed alongside Nathalia Timberg in A Graça da Vida. On television she played roles in the telenovelas Meu Bem, Meu Mal (1990), Razão de Viver (1996), Chiquititas (1998), Marisol (2002) and Negócio da China (2008), and in the sitcom Toma Lá, Dá Cá. Her biggest television success came with Pé na Cova, in which she played the eccentric Luz Divina across 71 episodes. Her last television work was the series Eu, a Vó e a Boi (2019).
As a writer she produced a biography of the actor and playwright Marcos Caruso, Marcos Caruso: um obstinado (2007), for the Coleção Aplauso series of the São Paulo state publisher Imprensa Oficial, and the book Memórias de um tempo não vivido (2017). She also prepared the text of 50, Eu?, the autobiography of television presenter Zeca Camargo.
Her death was announced on 3 November 2026 by Miguel Falabella, who wrote that "our Luz Divina has gone out", calling her an actress full of resources and a generous colleague. The cause of death was not disclosed. Her family described her as a determined woman, a loyal friend, an artist in love with the theatre, and a loving mother and grandmother. A farewell ceremony was held on 4 November at Funeral House Pacaembu in São Paulo.
