Jacob "Jake" Johnson was an American high school football coach who served as head football coach and athletic director at Millsap High School in Parker County, Texas, from 2015 until his death in 2026. He was 45 and had lived with leukemia for three years.

Johnson played college football at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, where a former teammate remembered him by the nickname "Rambo". He began coaching there as a graduate assistant, then worked as an assistant coach at Fort Worth Arlington Heights High School and at Richland High School before Millsap hired him in 2015 to lead the Bulldogs, a Class 3A program about 45 miles west of Fort Worth.

At Millsap he posted a 52-71 record and took the team to the playoffs six times before 2026. His first postseason appearance, in 2018, ended an eight-year playoff drought for the program, and the Bulldogs reached the playoffs in five straight seasons from 2020 to 2024. In 2021 they beat Henrietta 36-32 in the bi-district round, Millsap's first playoff win since 1999. His wife said he believed it was his job to create men and then teach them how to play football.

Johnson was diagnosed with leukemia around 2023 and went through intensive stem cell treatment. He entered remission in the summer of 2026 and returned to the sideline, coaching a team that featured his son Braun, a running back who had rushed for 1,835 yards and 24 touchdowns in the first seven games. The Bulldogs started the season 6-1 and unbeaten in district play, their best start in more than a decade. His cancer relapsed in the autumn, and he stepped away for further treatment, with William Bass serving as interim head coach.

Johnson died early on the morning of Friday 23 October 2026 at a hospital in Dallas. His wife, Cassie, announced his death on Facebook, and Millsap ISD Superintendent Dr. Harper Stewart said his contributions to the district were generational. At the family's request, that night's home game against Eastland went ahead as an "Orange Out" in his honour, and Braun scored a rushing touchdown two plays into the game. He was survived by his wife and their children, Braun and Payton.

Biography adapted from Fort Worth Star-Telegram, GM Sports Media (Brian Gosset), Chron (Eddie Maisonet), WFAA, Millsap ISD (2026).

In their own words

"It was his job to create men then teach them how to play football." That's the whole philosophy right there. 45.
