Lynne "Brooke" Bredenbeck, known to family and friends by several names over the course of her life, including Lynne, Brooke, Mrs. B, and later Mamoo to her grandchildren, died on September 5, 2026, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 90. She was born Lynn Pirrie Burns on May 31, 1936, in Evanston, Illinois, and later informally adopted the name Brooke while in college, a change that stuck for the rest of her life.
Her family moved during her childhood from Evanston to Columbus and then to Bexley, Ohio, where she finished high school. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree at Miami University in Ohio, and afterward married Kim Bredenbeck. She pursued graduate study in theology at the University of Chicago before relocating to Germany, where her husband was stationed after being drafted into the Army. It was there that she gave birth to her first child, Toby. The family then returned to Ohio, settling for a time in Bedford, a suburb of Cleveland, where her two younger children, Heidi and Karin, were born.
Bredenbeck built a career once her children were old enough for school, working first as a teacher's aide in the Bexley public schools before becoming an event coordinator at the Mount Carmel School of Nursing. She rose steadily within the organization, eventually becoming Director of Admissions, and earned an MBA in public administration in her forties while working full time. Following her divorce in the late 1970s, she took on additional part-time work alongside her career at Mount Carmel to support her children, a period her family remembered as evidence of her determination and independence.
She retired at age 59 and moved to Denver, Colorado, where she spent much of her later life. Those who knew her described a woman with a wide range of interests: she was an avid reader of mysteries and thrillers, an accomplished knitter who made three generations of Christmas stockings for her family, and a devoted crossword puzzle enthusiast.
Bredenbeck died peacefully in her sleep on September 5, 2026. Her family has not made public a specific cause of death. She is survived by her brother, her three daughters and their families, an ex-son-in-law, and five grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled to take place in Denver on October 2, 2026.
