Michael Byrne, who was born on 7 November 1939 and died on 20 June 2026, spent his working life as a British actor, moving between the stage of the National Theatre, Hollywood pictures and television.

The parts he took were remarkably varied, though audiences often remembered him for the several films in which he appeared as a German military figure.

My grandmother loved Michael. When she died we played their work at the funeral. Now they're both gone. Strange how connected it all is.
