Twelve years cleaning teeth by day while she and Andy built the MLS software at night. That's the founder story nobody puts in the pitch deck.

Niki Rapattoni was an American businesswoman who co-founded Rapattoni Corporation, a Westlake Village, California company that makes multiple listing service and association management software for the real estate industry, and who led it as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Her death at the age of 86 was announced by the company in October 2026.
She and her husband, Andy Rapattoni, were high school sweethearts at Chaffey High School in Ontario, California, in the 1950s. She graduated from the University of Southern California. The couple founded Rapattoni Corporation on 17 August 1970, after Andy left a position at Realtron Corporation, described as the first computerized multiple listing service vendor in the world.
For the company's first 12 years she worked as a dental hygienist while helping build the business, before joining it full time. Together the couple expanded the firm from listing software into association management technology, integrated website services, hosting and technical support for Realtor associations. Over five decades she managed nearly every part of its operations, from sales and accounting to marketing and human resources. In 2008 the Active Rain Real Estate Network named her one of the Top 25 Most Influential Women in Real Estate.
After Andy died in April 2015, she became Chief Executive Officer. Under her leadership the company kept its independence while much of the MLS technology industry was bought up by private equity, launched new products including Connect Dashboard, Atlas Tax and Magic+ AMS, and grew to serve associations representing more than 80 percent of Realtors in the United States. She also steered the firm through a 2023 ransomware attack that took its systems offline for nearly two weeks.
Outside work she was an athlete and artist who co-founded and led a championship adult precision ice skating team, The Fabulous Forties. She was a photographer and writer, publishing the children's book Fur-Faced Friends with her grandchildren in 2013 and writing a memoir for her family about growing up during the Second World War and moving 11 times before high school. She and Andy supported small theater groups in Southern California, created the Ralph Rapattoni Memorial Watercolor Scholarship at Cabrillo College and a drama scholarship at Chaffey High School, and she volunteered with the Children's Service Auxiliary of Ventura County.
Her death was first reported on 8 October 2026 by the industry blog Vendor Alley, and the company announced it on 9 October. President and Chief Operating Officer Ralph Hoover said her positive spirit had inspired everyone around her as she faced health challenges in recent years. No cause of death was made public.

In their own words
“With the loss of Andy in 2015 we blasted forward and, as he would say, 'We are a 50 year old startup company!'”
