79 years old, and more than fifty of them on the one stage. That's a whole life given to a craft. Praying for her family and everyone at the Volyn theatre tonight.

Olha Osiik was a Ukrainian stage actress who spent more than half a century with the Volyn Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre named after Taras Shevchenko in Lutsk, where she played more than 100 roles. She was named an Honoured Artist of Ukraine in 2002 and a People's Artist of Ukraine in 2014.
She was born Olha Terentiivna Osiik on 19 April 1947 in Stara Vyzhva, now Stara Vyzhivka, in Volyn, into a peasant family. She finished her secondary education at a boarding school in Lutsk in 1964 and went on to study acting at the Karpenko-Kary Kyiv State Institute of Theatre Arts, in the workshop of Volodymyr Nelli-Vlad, graduating in 1972.
Her professional career began in 1969 on the stage of the Olha Kobylianska Regional Music and Drama Theatre in Chernivtsi. In 1973 she joined the Volyn theatre in Lutsk, and her working life stayed bound to that company for the rest of her life. Her roles there included Mariia in Soldier's Widow by Mykola Ankilov, Otradina in Ostrovsky's Guilty Without Guilt, Akbara in an adaptation of Chinghiz Aitmatov's The Place of the Skull, Hermione in Lesya Ukrainka's The Orgy, the healer in Mykhailo Starytsky's Don't Go to the Evening Party, Hryts, Augustine in Robert Thomas's Eight Women, the grandmother in Alejandro Casona's Trees Die Standing, and Marta in Crisis by O. Ohorodnyk.
The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine described her characters as marked by high professional skill, artistic taste, psychological subtlety and expressive movement. Her theatre remembered her natural ease on stage, her exceptional command of speech and singing, her hard work, and her readiness to support stage partners and share her experience with young actors. Over the years she received many honours from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and the regional authorities of Volyn.
Olha Osiik died on 17 October 2026, at the age of 79. The theatre announced her death the same day, saying that the heart of one of the leading figures of its stage had stopped. No cause of death was made public. A farewell and memorial service was arranged for 19 October 2026 at the Church of the Chelm Icon of the Mother of God in Lutsk.
