Oscar E. Bosetti

Oscar Enrique Bosetti was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 28 January 1955. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires, graduating in 1978. His interest in journalism and radio deepened in the years after the return of democracy, when he began producing programmes that treated memory, truth and justice as living subjects for the airwaves.

Bosetti worked as a producer, presenter and researcher across Argentine radio, including Radio Belgrano, Radio Splendid, Radio General Urquiza and Radio Rivadavia. He presented series such as Raíces, Encrucijadas and, in later years, Tramas on university and community stations. From 2002 to 2006 he was undersecretary of media at the University of Buenos Aires and a founder and general coordinator of Radio UBA. In 1992 he helped establish the Agencia Radiofónica de Comunicación at the National University of Entre Ríos, remaining a reference for Radio UNER Paraná from its first broadcast in 2011. He published influential studies of Argentine radio, among them Radiofonías: Palabras y sonidos de largo alcance (1993), Las tres frecuencias didácticas del dial radiofónico (1997), Las charlas radiofónicas de Discepolín (1999), La radio en Argentina (2007), Noventa años de palabras y sonidos de largo alcance (2009) and Radio Nacional: las maneras de hablar de un medio público (2010).

Bosetti made Paraná a second professional home through decades of teaching at UNER while remaining based in Buenos Aires. His partner was Aixa Boeykens, dean of UNER's Faculty of Education Sciences. Friends and colleagues described him as generous with younger journalists, insistent that radio was not a dying medium, and happiest when classrooms doubled as workshops for making programmes.

Bosetti died in Buenos Aires on 27 September 2026 at the age of 71 after several days in hospital with a heart condition. UNER's Faculty of Education Sciences announced the news and offered condolences to Boeykens, family, colleagues and students. A memorial service was held at 11:00 on 28 September 2026 in the chapel of La Chacarita cemetery. The faculty declared institutional mourning that day without suspending classes.

Bosetti is remembered as a principal historian and teacher of Argentine radiofonía: a co-designer of UNER's Comunicación Social curriculum after 1983, a co-founding teacher at ETER, and the author of books that remain standard references. Eduardo Aliverti called him the greatest investigator of Argentine radio and praised classes, especially his account of Orson Welles's 1938 War of the Worlds broadcast, that showed students the power of radio fiction. Generations of communicators in Paraná, Buenos Aires and beyond cite his method of learning radio by making radio.
