Just read about this man and I can't stop thinking about it. He built a whole company just to give soldiers work after the war. That's rare.

Ravindra Kishore Sinha, known across India as RK Sinha, was a Bihar-born journalist turned entrepreneur who founded Security and Intelligence Services (SIS), one of India's largest private security companies, and later served the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a Rajya Sabha member for Bihar from 2014 to 2020. He died at his residence in Noida on 30 October 2026, aged 75, after a long illness that followed a severe brain stroke in January 2025.
Sinha was born on 22 September 1951 in Bihar. Most reports place his roots in Buxar district, while News18 Hindi names Bahiyara village in neighbouring Bhojpur district as his birthplace. He completed his education in Patna, graduating in political science and law, and began work as a young journalist reporting on crime and politics. Hindi press accounts recall that he earned roughly 250 rupees a month in those early years.
As a reporter he covered the 1971 India-Pakistan war. In the same period he wrote "Jan Andolan" (also styled "Janandolan"), a research book on the student movement led by Jayaprakash Narayan in Bihar between 1970 and 1975. His time at the front left a lasting impression: he saw how disciplined the returning soldiers were, and how many of them struggled to find work after leaving the army.
That observation became a business. In 1974, encouraged by Jayaprakash Narayan to help retired soldiers find employment as security guards, Sinha founded Security and Intelligence Services in Patna. Accounts of the founding describe a small rented office or garage, a team of two, a handful of ex-servicemen recruits and very little capital.
SIS grew steadily across eastern India and then nationwide. In 2008 the company, led in its expansion by his son Rituraj Kishore Sinha, acquired the Australian guarding business of Chubb, giving it a major presence in Australia, and it later expanded to New Zealand and Singapore. SIS became a listed company, and by 2026 press reports put the group's annual revenue at around 16,000 crore rupees. Sinha served as founder and group chairman, represented the private security industry before government bodies on legislation and regulation, and was executive chairman of the International Institute of Security and Safety Management. He received a Loss Prevention Promoter Award from the Security Association of Singapore in 2006 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Central Association of Private Security Industry in 2013.
Politics ran alongside business for most of his life. Sinha was active with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and was counted among the founding members of the BJP in Bihar, holding organisational posts at state and national level and chairing the party's Bihar election campaign committee. He was regarded as close to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani. He served as an adviser to the Ministry of Human Resource Development from 1999 to 2004. In 2014 the BJP sent him to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar, where he served until April 2020 and sat on committees including Home Affairs and External Affairs, speaking in the house on subjects such as black money, unemployment data and drug addiction among schoolchildren.
In 2016, at the request of the RSS leadership, he became chairman of Hindusthan Samachar, India's oldest multilingual news agency and resigned in April 2022. He also wrote regular Hindi opinion columns, was president of the Akhil Bharatiya Kayastha Mahasabha, chaired the Awasar Trust, was president of Vatsalya Gram, was a founder member of Patanjali Yog Peeth and founded the Indian Public School in Dehradun.
In November 2017 the Paradise Papers investigation named Sinha in connection with two offshore SIS group entities in Malta and the British Virgin Islands. He said he held a single share on behalf of the company and not in a personal capacity, and that all required disclosures had been made.
On 17 January 2025, while travelling home to Noida after a meeting in Delhi, Sinha suffered a brain haemorrhage. He underwent emergency surgery at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Delhi and was flown to Singapore for further treatment. He remained gravely ill, and reports describe a long period in a coma. He died at his Noida home on the morning of 30 October 2026. Arrangements were announced for his body to lie at Annapurna Bhawan in Pataliputra, Patna, for the public to pay respects, with final rites planned at his ancestral village in Buxar.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Kishore Sinha, and his son Rituraj Kishore Sinha, among other family. Tributes came from Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the Bihar BJP and colleagues across journalism, business and politics, many remembering how a reporter on a modest salary built a company that gave work to hundreds of thousands of people.
