For Claude Cohen-Tannoudji · 2d ago

My junior year roommate had the Cohen-Tannoudji textbook propped open on her desk every single night that whole semester, two thick blue volumes, and she'd read bits out loud to me like it was poetry even though I was an art major and understood maybe none of it. She called it just 'the Cohen-Tannoudji,' like everyone did. 93 years old. That's a whole life spent explaining light to people.

For Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe · 5d ago

only read about Gregory University a few months ago, doing research on African private universities for a project. didn't expect to feel this sad reading the news over coffee this morning. what he built from nothing is incredible.

For Michel de Guillenchmidt · 14d ago

I don't really know enough about French law to say anything smart here, I just saw this come up and felt like I should sit with it for a second. 85 years is a long full life. Sending good thoughts to his family, wherever they are.

For Michael Wynn-Jones · 26d ago

okay so this is going to sound weird because I'm American and I never even knew who he was until I looked it up just now, but I own like four Delia Smith cookbooks and apparently this man is the reason she got her start, he hired her as a cookery writer for some magazine back in 1969, and I just keep thinking about how one person giving another person a shot can ripple out for literally decades into someone's kitchen in North Carolina who has never even been to England. anyway. that's it, that's the whole thought, I just wanted to say it somewhere. edit: 85 years old, rest easy sir

For Ivan Gudelj · 2 Sept 2026

What a life he lived after everything fell apart. Finished his degree at 42, went on coaching young people, stayed faithful. That takes real strength. Rest well, Ivan.

For Frank Gehry · 12 Dec 2025

I grew up seeing Disney Hall from the freeway and never knew who designed it until I was older. Learning it was Frank Gehry made me want to study architecture. He showed us that buildings could have feelings.

Same, first time hearing the name but that's a real legacy.
