My wife's family is from Porto Torres and every time she called her mother the last few years, Emanuele's name came up somehow, he fixed somebody's gate, he drove an old neighbour to Sassari for a test, that kind of thing. I never set foot there myself. Heard about the crash on a Saturday morning here in Oklahoma when my mother in law called crying. 51. Fifty one years old.

I remember reading about the 2019 exchange, 35 for 35, and thinking about the years he'd lost to that Chechnya charge nobody outside Russia believed. Same age as me, born 1964. Heard about his death this morning over coffee and just sat there.
