Was reading up on Vatican-Islam relations just last week, his name kept coming up, the work he did in Egypt trying to get the Church and Al-Azhar talking again after things broke down. Saw the news this morning and did a double take. 78 years old.

Never saw him play live but read enough to know he was the kind of player who showed up, did the work, and didn't need the spotlight. That matters more than people think.
