I watched The Queen's Jewels with my daughter one quiet evening in Singapore, not knowing the woman behind it had come all the way from a bank teller's desk in Sydney to producing films in Los Angeles. Fifty five is no age at all. My condolences to her family.

I only came across the name Joe Morgan a few years back, when a friend in Boston kept talking about something called Morgan Magic. Twelve straight wins to start as manager in 1988, she said, like the whole city held its breath and it worked. Ninety five years old and never left Walpole. There is something lovely about a place keeping someone that long.
