This one hit different for me. My uncle died the same year he turned 100, and reading that Hilsum was still filing patents at 97 just wrecked me a little. I was scrolling on my phone, the exact kind of screen his work helped make possible, when I saw the news. Strange to feel this much for someone I never met.

My mom called me at 6am my time to tell me, before I'd even had coffee. She grew up near St. Clairsville and always said there were three NFL guys from that little town, she'd list them off like a party trick. Weird to hear news like that from so far away.
