So I keep coming back to the fact he was born in Fulda, Minnesota and that's where he died too, which for some reason gets me more than anything else in the write up. We used to drive through that part of Murray County on the way to my uncle's place and you'd never guess a 6 foot 9 kid came out of there and ended up a German citizen running a basketball club in Bonn. I didn't even know the Heat and Mavericks thing until today, picked in two expansion drafts and never suited up for either one, that's a strange kind of history to make but it's his. Anyway. Rest easy out there, it's a small world and a smaller town.

My dad used Astor Weiss for a lease dispute years back and he just called me to say Mandel ran that place for over two decades. Didn't know him myself but my dad sounded shook.
