I just read this an hour ago and had to put my phone down for a second. Found Coronation Street late, binge watching old episodes on a British channel we get here in Maryland, and that Sheila Birtles pill storyline stopped me cold even decades on. 94 years old. What a quiet, strange thing to only find out now.

Never heard of her until a Moscow trip years back, wandered into the Tretyakov's sculpture wing without much interest and ended up staying an hour. Found out after that she built that whole collection. Not someone I knew of, but that part of the museum stuck with me more than the paintings did.

I don't really know what to say about this one. My dad used to talk about that 1969 pole day like it happened to our own family, waved off and then the rain came. Ninety one years old. Just sad.

I was a teenager in Maryland when I first read about Springsteen through Dave's eyes, and I understood for the first time that a critic could teach you how to listen. He never wrote down to anyone. He treated rock like it was what it is: urgent, necessary, alive.
