For Andrei Medvedev · 8d ago
so this is a weird one for me to even be posting about, I don't speak Russian, never been to St Petersburg, but a few years back I went down this YouTube hole looking at old Soviet variety TV and I kept landing on Song of the Year clips and there was this arrangement of Portrait of Celentano that just stuck in my head for weeks, didn't even know who did it at first, had to dig through the credits translated badly by some app. anyway turns out it was this guy, Medvedev, 74, conductor and composer, apparently trained under someone named Badkhen who I now also know way too much about. he died the 16th. I know that's a small thing to grieve over, some music you found on a laptop at 1am, but it's real, that arrangement is real. edit: fixed the name, had it wrong the first time.
