My dad had the transistor radio on the porch every May for the 500, and 1969 was the year he kept saying watch this Sirois kid, he's got the pole. Then the rain came and the owner waved him off and Dad just shook his head. I was seventeen and I never forgot that he didn't blame anyone for it. 91 years old, good Lord.
