For Gary Dwyer · 12d ago

I don't really know what to say. Reward was always on the radio when I was a kid in Cardiff and I never once thought about who was behind the kit, and now I can't stop thinking about it. 66 is no age.

Saw this on the news tonight. A basketball coach who took young players to three championships, killed at the front at just this time of year. Thinking of his family tonight, whoever they are, left without him.

For Fiorenza Marchegiani · 18d ago

My Italian flatmate in the 90s used to put Ricomincio da tre on whenever she was homesick, I didn't understand half the dialogue back then but Marta's face said everything, that kind of patient exasperation with a man who won't grow up, universal really. I only found out years later it was Troisi's first film as director. Anyway I just read she's gone, 73, and I'm sitting here thinking about that flat in Cardiff and the subtitles we never bothered with. Sorry, rambling. She was good in it, that's the point I meant to make.

For Ella Mae Dowdy · 27d ago

78. Peaceful, at home, surrounded by family. That's a good way to go.

For Bill Schmidt · 7 Sept 2026

From coal camp to Olympic bronze to shaping how an entire generation drank sports. Remarkable life.

She outlived so much history, it's remarkable.

Bolton Hill won't be the same without her, from what I've read.

Yes. The practical kind of leadership we need more of.
