so I never heard of this guy until this morning, somebody posted it in a Normandy history group I'm in, mostly for the D-Day stuff, my dad landed near there in 44 and I've been reading about the area for years. anyway this fellow Ledran was mayor of Ouistreham for something like 31 years, 1983 to 2014, which just blows my mind, we can't keep a mayor two terms here without somebody suing somebody. he was a teacher too, history and geography, taught all through the 70s before he ran things. and the thing that got me was the ferry, he's the one who opened up that Caen to Portsmouth crossing, so all these English families just driving onto a boat and ending up in his little town, that's a real thing a person did with their life. 93 years old. edit, fixed the dates, I had 1984 at first
