Alex Labat was an American television journalist, digital marketer and streamer from Lafayette, Louisiana, who anchored the weekend news on KATC, the ABC affiliate serving Acadiana, before building a second career online. He died on 3 November 2026, aged 38.
Labat graduated from Acadiana High School in 2006 and earned a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He joined KATC Channel 3 and became a weekend anchor, a familiar face for viewers across south Louisiana. He later moved into digital marketing at Burning Stick Creative, where he worked for more than seven years and most recently served as SEO and AI manager.
Outside work he was an avid gamer and technology enthusiast who streamed on Twitch as SNLabat, where he described himself as an award winning former anchor, producer and reporter turned Twitch Partner, best known for playing a character called Mr. Delicious on a Grand Theft Auto V roleplay server. He also held a second degree black belt in Shotokan karate. That mix of newsroom discipline, technical curiosity and playful on screen personality carried through all three of his careers, and colleagues across Lafayette broadcasting and marketing knew him for his enthusiasm and kindness as much as for his work.
His family said one of his greatest joys was watching his son, Lucas, play soccer and football. KATC meteorologist Rob Perillo, a former colleague, called him "a brilliant journalist" who "lit up the room" and "such a kind-hearted, brilliant, supportive human being."
Labat died on Tuesday 3 November 2026 in Lafayette, and The Advocate reported his death the next day. No cause of death was made public. He is survived by his son Lucas Scott Labat, his parents Brenton and Charlene Labat, his brother Brent, his sister Brooke, and Lucas's mother, Ashley Guidroz Labat. A celebration of life was arranged at Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette for 14 November. In lieu of flowers, his family asked people to spend time with loved ones and go to their children's games.
