Just read about the Beger tapes case, wild stuff, then saw he died today. Didn't know his name an hour ago, now I can't stop reading about him.

Andrzej Morozowski (June 13, 1957 to August 4, 2026) was a Polish radio and television journalist, one of the first political reporters of free Poland and for a quarter of a century one of the best known faces of the news channel TVN24. A co-founder of Radio Zet and part of the TVN24 team from the day the channel launched in 2001, he co-hosted the investigative talk show "Teraz my!" with Tomasz Sekielski and, from 2010 until his death, hosted the channel's flagship afternoon current affairs programme "Tak jest".
Morozowski was born in Warsaw on June 13, 1957, into a Polish Jewish family. His father, born Mordechaj Mozes and later known as Mieczysław Morozowski, had worked as a miner and in the archive of the communist Ministry of Public Security. After the antisemitic campaign of March 1968 his parents decided to stay in Poland, and Andrzej was raised without religion. He spoke openly about his Jewish roots later in life, including in a 2013 Newsweek Polska interview titled "My father Mordechaj Mozes".
He graduated from the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski XVII High School in Warsaw in 1976 and in 1981 completed theatre studies at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy in Warsaw. His first job in journalism was at the Catholic biweekly "Hejnał Mariacki". During the partially free elections of June 1989 he served as a polling observer for the Solidarity side, and he then worked for the Citizens' Parliamentary Club, the Solidarity caucus in the Sejm.
In 1990 he was among the founders of Radio Zet, which first broadcast as Radio Gazeta, and he worked there for a decade as a reporter and parliamentary correspondent. In the same period he was a Sejm reporter for Polish Television's "Teleexpress" and hosted "Krótkie spięcie", and on Polsat he presented the programmes "Ring" and "Polityczne Graffiti".
When TVN24 went on air in 2001 he was part of its founding team. He started as a parliamentary reporter, arriving at the Sejm before eight in the morning and carrying lighting cases along its corridors, and went on to host or co-host "Skaner polityczny", "Bohater tygodnia", "Studio 24", "Kuluary", "Rozmowa bardzo polityczna" and "Prześwietlenie". From 2005 to 2010 he and Tomasz Sekielski presented "Teraz my!" on the main TVN channel, one of the most popular political shows in Polish television and one of the first to use journalistic provocation. In September 2006 the programme broadcast hidden camera recordings, made with Samoobrona MP Renata Beger, of her talks with Law and Justice politicians, setting off the so called tape scandal and a major government crisis. The duo won the Grand Press Journalist of the Year award for 2006, the Andrzej Woyciechowski Prize, Telekamery in 2007 and 2008 and a MediaTor, and Morozowski also received a Wiktor in 2005 as most valued journalist.
From 2010 he led his own programme, "Tak jest", an afternoon summary of the day's events with politicians and commentators. Colleagues remembered him as a master of political conversation who prepared carefully, asked hard questions without raising his voice and was genuinely curious about the person in front of him. He also wrote or co-wrote three books and made cameo appearances in the sitcom "Niania" and the film "Sztos 2".
Morozowski was married to Agata Nowakowska, an economics journalist at Gazeta Wyborcza and later spokesperson for Rossmann in Poland. They had a son, Jan, who was seriously ill after birth and spent many months at the Children's Memorial Health Institute, a time Morozowski called one of the hardest of their lives.
In late 2025 he disappeared from the air for more than half a year. On March 5, 2026, he returned to "Tak jest" and opened the show with a personal statement: he had been away because he had been fighting cancer, and his health now allowed him to host again, if not full time. He died on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, after a long illness, at the age of 69. TVN24 interrupted its programming to announce his death and opened that evening's "Tak jest" with an empty chair. Prime Minister Donald Tusk called him "a journalist of the truest kind. Thoughtful, critical and thoroughly decent." His funeral took place on August 14, 2026, at the Powązki Military Cemetery in Warsaw, after which his urn was laid to rest at the cemetery in Pyry, Warsaw. Anna Jędrzejowska succeeded him as host of "Tak jest", saying the chair would always remain his place.
