Anuj Thakur was an Indian television actor who worked in Hindi serials for close to two decades, appearing in shows including Dhoom Machao Dhoom, Bandhan Saath Janmon Ka, Beend Banoonga Ghodi Chadhunga and Mahisagar. He died in his sleep at home on 27 October 2026. Major Indian outlets, among them The Times of India, The Indian Express, NDTV and The Economic Times, gave his age as 33, while some Hindi and Marathi outlets reported it as 30.
Thakur's career was built on the small screen. His friend, the casting director Rupesh Sonar, said the two first worked together in 2008 on Bandhan Saath Janmon Ka, and that they went on to collaborate on several more shows, including Beend Banoonga Ghodi Chadhunga. Thakur was also part of Dhoom Machao Dhoom and the serial Mahisagar. He was never a headline star, but he was a familiar face within the Mumbai television industry, and colleagues who had known him since his early days spoke of him with real affection.
Those who worked with him remembered his manner as much as his roles. Sonar described him as respectful to everyone, generous, cheerful and helpful, and said he regarded him as a younger brother. The actor Vaqaur Shaikh, who said he had known Thakur since his initial days, called him a very sweet and nice guy, and other performers posted messages of shock and grief beneath Sonar's tribute.
Thakur had been away from the screen for a period but was planning a return. Sonar said that when they met about ten days before his death, Thakur talked enthusiastically about making a comeback and that his enthusiasm was the same as it had been in 2008. The two had planned several projects together. Thakur was disciplined about his health, rising at 4.30 every morning for exercise and jogging.
According to what his family told Sonar, Thakur went to sleep as usual and did not wake. His alarm went off at 4.30 in the morning, and when his mother went to his room to wake him she found that he had died. The family told Sonar he had suffered a seizure; some Hindi and Marathi outlets instead reported a heart attack in his sleep. No official medical statement has been published. Sonar learned of the death from a mutual friend on the evening of Friday 30 October and shared the news on Instagram the same day, and it was widely reported on 1 and 2 November 2026. He was survived by his mother and a brother.
