Bartina Koeman-Boddeveld was a Dutch public figure best known as the wife of footballer and manager Ronald Koeman and as the steady centre of a family life lived beside elite football for more than four decades. Born on 30 January 1961, she married Koeman in 1985. The couple had three children, Tim, Ronald Jr and Debbie, and later became grandparents. Through Ajax, PSV, Barcelona and the Netherlands national team years, she remained a private presence in a very public career.
Bartina was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The disease returned in later years, including spread to her spine, and she spoke within family statements about recurring treatment while continuing to support Koeman's work, including during Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup cycle. In June 2026 Koeman stepped down as Netherlands coach after a round-of-32 World Cup exit, citing her illness among his reasons and praising the strength with which she had urged him to finish the job even while she was ill.
Football coverage across Europe treated her final years as a reminder that the people beside famous managers carry costs the camera rarely shows.
