Carolyn Monroe Hall was a retired special education teacher and longtime community volunteer from McConnelsville, Ohio, who spent two decades working with students in the Perry and Morgan school systems. She was born on August 14, 1947, in Zanesville, Ohio, the daughter of Harold and Florence (Grier) Monroe, and she earned a bachelor's degree in education before devoting her career to teaching children with special needs.
Beyond the classroom, Hall was known in her corner of southeastern Ohio for her hands on involvement in rural and community life. She founded the Shenandoah Riding Club, served as a 4-H Advisor, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and worked for years as a coordinator and coach for the Special Olympics. She was a devoted member of Cumberland United Methodist Church, and those who knew her described a woman who found deep satisfaction in service to young people and to her neighbors.
Her personal life was centered on family. She married Kenneth "Red" Hall on January 6, 1968, and the couple raised children together until his death in 2014. The family endured an earlier loss as well, when their son Justin Hall died in 1976. Hall was also an enthusiastic breeder and shower of bull terriers, and friends remembered her as an avid animal lover who filled her free time with reading, sewing, and the study of history.
Carolyn Monroe Hall died on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the age of 79, passing away peacefully at home in McConnelsville surrounded by her family. Her death was announced through a funeral home notice and local news coverage in the days that followed. No cause of death has been made public, and the family's announcements describe only that she died peacefully in the company of loved ones.
Hall is survived by her son, Adrian Hall, and her daughter, Melinda Yerian (and her husband Ron), along with three grandchildren: Ian Hall (and his wife Katherine Binns), Olivia Yerian (and her husband Richard Feller), and Ashton Yerian. She was remembered by her community as a teacher, mentor, and tireless volunteer whose influence reached well beyond her own family.
