Dauda Ali Biu was a Nigerian road safety administrator and accountant who served as Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the agency responsible for policing Nigeria's highways, from 2022 to 2024. He died on 11 October 2026 at the age of 62.
Born in 1964 in Zaria, Kaduna State, Biu traced his family roots to Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State. He studied accounting at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984 and later a Master of Business Administration in 2006, and he became a Certified National Accountant and Certified Public Accountant. He joined the FRSC in 1988 and spent more than three decades working his way up through its ranks, including stints as Assistant Corps Marshal and then Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Finance and Accounts at the agency's Abuja headquarters.
His elevation to the top of the organisation came in July 2022, when then President Muhammadu Buhari named him Acting Corps Marshal following the retirement of his predecessor, Boboye Oyeyemi. Buhari confirmed him as substantive Corps Marshal later that year. In the role, Biu was the public face of the FRSC during a period marked by recurring tragedies on Nigeria's roads, including the deaths of corps personnel on duty, which he publicly mourned and condemned. He led the agency until 2024, capping a career spent almost entirely within the organisation he eventually came to head.
Biu died on a Sunday evening at a hospital in Abuja, according to family sources. His death was confirmed by his nephew, Adamu-Isa Gunda, and separately announced by Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, a member of Nigeria's House of Representatives from Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, who described receiving the news with a heavy heart. The precise cause of his death had not been made public at the time of initial reporting. His remains were to be transported from Abuja to Chikaji in Sabon Gari, Zaria, for burial according to Islamic rites.
Beyond his FRSC career, Biu held the traditional title of Jagaban Sabon Gari, reflecting his standing within his home community in Kaduna State. He was survived by a wife and five children. Tributes following his death recalled him as a long serving FRSC officer whose professional life was devoted to road safety administration, and he was remembered by colleagues and community leaders for his decades of public service.
