DJ Martin D (Martin Oliver Solis Dipasupil)

Dipasupil died on the morning of 27 September 2026 at the age of 56. His daughter Yey Carteciano announced the news on Facebook the same day, writing that the family was still processing the loss and thanking people for prayers and sympathy. She said wake arrangements were being finalised and would be shared once confirmed. The cause of death was not disclosed.

News outlets including The Summit Express, PEP.ph, GMA Network and Philstar Life reported the announcement. Colleagues paid tribute within hours. Longtime friend and fellow DJ Laila Chikadora called him a true pillar of the industry and said his voice had been a friend in every home and car it reached. Eva Ronda thanked him for mentoring her, and DJ ChaCha remembered him as one of the pillars of FM radio.

Martin Oliver Solis Dipasupil was born in San Juan, Metro Manila, on 23 May 1970. He spent his early childhood there and later moved with his parents to Marikina in 1983, first living on F. Torres Street in Concepcion Uno and later settling with his own family in Barangay Fortune.

He studied at Aquinas School in San Juan and graduated with the second high school batch of Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College (OLOPSC) in 1987. As a child he was already devoted to radio, copying DJ patter and station sign-offs for fun. Friends later encouraged him to pursue broadcasting rather than his earlier idea of joining the Philippine Military Academy.

Dipasupil worked as a disc jockey and production assistant at smaller stations and as a salesman before landing his defining job. On 1 November 1996 he joined ABS-CBN's DWRR 101.9 FM, then known as WRR 101.9 For Life, after auditioning for Lito "LBJ" Balquiedra Jr. He told Balquiedra he was good enough not to embarrass the station, and he went on air that morning at 5 a.m.

He remained with the frequency through its rebrandings as Tambayan 101.9 in 2009 and MOR 101.9 For Life in 2013. Listeners associated him with programmes such as Request Express and the Saturday Top 20 Countdown. In 2011 he received the Best Music Radio Jock award at the 20th KBP Golden Dove Awards. He stayed until the station's terrestrial operations ended in May 2020 after ABS-CBN lost its broadcast franchise. Afterwards he continued online and on local radio and took technical roles, including sound technician and drama editor at 93.9 iFM Manila.

In 1992 he married Marissa, who was from Floridablanca, Pampanga. They raised their children in Marikina. Their daughter Yey Carteciano announced his death in 2026. In a 2014 Marikeno interview he said radio work had helped him educate his three children, build a home and buy a car, and that he preferred to entertain listeners rather than himself when he was on the board.

He loved new wave music, naming The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Smiths and New Order among favourites, and he had interviewed artists including Air Supply and Angela Bofill. He later spoke publicly about a stroke in July 2018 and about pleural effusion diagnosed in November 2023, saying those episodes made him more careful about what he ate.

For nearly three decades Dipasupil's voice was part of the commute, school run and household routine for many Filipinos who grew up with WRR, Tambayan and MOR 101.9. The Golden Dove award and the tributes from peers marked him as more than a familiar on-air name: he was remembered as a mentor and as someone who treated board work as a duty to lift listeners' spirits.

After his death, listeners recalled Request Express, the Saturday countdown and the humour that made him a fixture of teenage and college years. His career also bridged the end of ABS-CBN's terrestrial radio era and the move into online and technical audio work, showing how a long-serving FM jock adapted when the franchise closed.
