My uncle emigrated to the Kapiti Coast in the eighties and used to send us newspaper clippings about New Zealand politics, that's how I first heard the name Geoff Thompson. I remember sitting in his kitchen in Paraparaumu in 1996 while he explained MMP to me over tea, and he said it was Thompson who'd got the party ready for it. Eighty six is a good long run. Thinking of his family tonight.
