Florin Cotora was a Romanian footballer who kept goal for Inter Sibiu in the top flight from the age of 18 and later helped Apulum Alba Iulia win promotion to the first division for the first time in the club's history. After his playing days he built a second career as a DJ and events organiser in Sibiu County. He died in Sibiu on 19 October 2026 at the age of 53.

He was born in Sibiu on 12 December 1972 and came through at his home town club, Inter Sibiu. He made his Divizia A debut on 25 August 1991, aged 18, in a 1-1 away draw against Electroputere Craiova. He spent most of the 1990s at Inter, where his brother Lucian Cotora was also a player and the two were teammates. In a 2009 interview he recalled a spell with Electroputere Craiova, and said he had been honoured when the sports writer Ioan Chirila compared him to Romania's goalkeeper Silviu Lung after a strong display against Dinamo.

After a season with Minaur Zlatna, Cotora joined Apulum Alba Iulia in 2002. He was part of the side that won the 2002 to 2003 Divizia B title and took the club, now known as Unirea Alba Iulia, into the first division for the first time. According to RomanianSoccer statistics he made 55 appearances in Divizia A and 131 in Divizia B over a career that ended around 2005.

Unlike most former players, he did not stay in football. He had always been the man in charge of the music in the Inter Sibiu dressing room, and he turned that passion into a business, Cotora Sound and Lights, which grew from weddings and private parties into one of the best known event companies in Sibiu County. In 2009 he also organised a charity collection for a care home, a children's home and needy families in the county. He had two sons.

In October 2026 Cotora was taken ill and admitted to the Sibiu County Emergency Clinical Hospital on 10 October. He died there on the evening of Monday 19 October after a cardiorespiratory arrest, the hospital said. Unirea Alba Iulia paid tribute to him as one of the men who wrote the finest pages in the club's history.

In their own words

“For me it was nothing unusual to move from football to music, because even when I played for Inter Sibiu I did this. I was always the one in charge of the music.”

In 2001 he moved to Minaur Zlatna and a year later to Apulum Alba Iulia. In the 2002 to 2003 season Apulum won Divizia B and earned the first promotion to the top flight in the history of the club, now Unirea Alba Iulia; Cotora was part of that squad and remained with the team in the first division under coach Aurel Sunda. He finished his career with 55 appearances in Divizia A and 131 in Divizia B, according to RomanianSoccer.

After retiring he became a DJ, saying the move felt natural because he had always been in charge of the music in the Inter Sibiu dressing room. Starting with weddings and private parties, he built the company Cotora Sound and Lights into one of the most sought after event firms in Sibiu County, organising large events including the opening of a Metro hypermarket in Deva.
