Frank Grønlund was a Norwegian footballer and club official whose career was bound to Lillestrøm SK. He died in Lillestrøm on 29 September 2026 at the age of 73. Born on 13 December 1952 in Lillestrøm, Grønlund came through as a defender and debuted for LSK in 1970. He stayed until the end of the 1983 season. Counting league play from the mid-1970s he made 175 first-division appearances and scored 12 goals. Club tallies that include cups and friendlies put him near 400 matches in canary colours, and tributes after his death often cited 243 competitive appearances. He was central to Lillestrøm's first league titles in 1976 and 1977, including the 1977 league-and-cup double, and to Norwegian Cup wins in 1977, 1978, and 1981, when he wore the captain's armband in the final against Moss. He earned two caps for Norway, against Hungary in 1981 World Cup qualifying and Finland in a 1982 friendly.
After leaving LSK as a player he was player-coach at Skeid (1984-1985) and Aurskog/Finstadbru (1987-1989). From 1991 he returned to Lillestrøm in administrative roles that included director of sports, chairman (formann from 1998 to 2002), managing director, and chief executive, serving the club in that wider sense until about 2015. In 2003 he was made an honorary member. Those years kept him at the centre of recruitment, culture, and the day-to-day identity of a club that had grown from local pride into a national force.
In later years he and his wife Tina Svensson Grønlund spoke publicly about his dementia. Former coach and leader Ivar Hoff told VG he had recently visited and that, after Tom Lund, Grønlund was the LSK figure he respected most. Managing director Robert Lauritsen called him one of the club's true legends as player, captain, and executive. Across decades, Grønlund's path from teenage debutant to cup-winning captain and long-serving official stood as a model of one-club loyalty in Norwegian football.
