Germán Quintero was a Colombian actor whose career in television, film and theatre spanned more than four decades. Born in Bogotá, he was best remembered for playing the newspaper editor Guillermo Cano Isaza in Escobar, el patrón del mal and the grandfather Don Martín Acevedo in the second season of Pasión de gavilanes. He died on 15 October 2026, aged 72.

Quintero began acting professionally in the early 1980s. His first television roles came in El Bogotazo (1984), a series based on the riots that followed the assassination of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán in 1948, where he played the writer Jorge Zalamea, and in Los Cuervos (1985). Over the following years he became a familiar supporting actor in Colombian telenovelas and series, including La fuerza del poder, Sueños y espejos, Cara o sello: Dos rostros de mujer, Guajira, El inútil and Pecados capitales. Infobae noted his range: he played priests, generals, family patriarchs and villains with equal conviction.

In the 2000s and 2010s he appeared in Mesa para tres, La saga, negocio de familia, Montecristo, Chepe Fortuna and El cartel de los sapos, in which he played General Javier Ibarra. In 2012 he took one of his most celebrated parts in Escobar, el patrón del mal, portraying Guillermo Cano Isaza, the director of El Espectador who was murdered on the orders of the Medellín cartel in 1986. Later credits included El Bronx, Jugar con fuego, La ley del corazón and Libertador.

In 2022 Quintero replaced the Cuban actor Jorge Cao as Don Martín Acevedo in the second season of Telemundo's Pasión de gavilanes, appearing in 48 episodes and winning over viewers who had doubted the change. His last television role was Bernardo Ruiz in Rojo carmesí (2024). In cinema he appeared in La milagrosa (2008), Gente de bien (2014) and Sin mover los labios (2017). He also worked in theatre as an actor and director; in 2011 he conceived, co-wrote and co-directed Muéreme at the Casa del Teatro Nacional in Bogotá, a play inspired by his own experience in an intensive care unit.

Quintero died on the morning of 15 October 2026. His family told El Tiempo that he died after health complications, and Infobae reported that he had been living with cancer for a long time. Actors including Majida Issa, Marcela Carvajal and Manuela González sent condolences to his family.

My mom called me the second she heard. She watched him as Don Martin on Pasion de gavilanes every single night for months, never missed it.
