Jackson Nascimento was born on 24 August 1924 in Paranaguá, on Paraná's coast, only months after Club Athletico Paranaense was founded in Curitiba. He grew up in nearby Antonina, where his father, José Tomaz (also spelled José Thomaz / José Tomaz do Nascimento in sources), helped found Clube Atlético Antoninense…

In their own words

Saudades de tudo o que o Athletico fez. Gostaria de poder fazer de novo, o que é impossível. Mas a vontade de jogar de novo pelo Athletico vou ter até morrer.

To GE near his 102nd birthday: missing everything Athletico did; the will to play for Athletico again until death. (GE)

Granddaughter Letícia Klein to GE, 9 Sep 2026, confirming final days and death at home in Camboriú around 00:30.

Rest well, Jackson. You were there when they named the Furacão and you stayed faithful to it for over a century.

Never saw Jackson play live, but my grandfather in Curitiba wouldn't stop talking about him. Watched some old footage last year. The way he moved was like he knew something the other players didn't.

102 years. Still thinking about Athletico at the end. That kind of love for something is rare and beautiful.

Grew up hearing about the 1949 team. Jackson was that link nobody thought would break. He saw so much football history and lived it all with the same club. That's something else.

Coastal Paraná boyhood and the Antoninense start

Jackson Nascimento was born in Paranaguá on 24 August 1924 and raised in Antonina, where his father helped found Clube Atlético Antoninense. He began kicking a ball there, moved to Curitiba as a boarding pupil at Liceu Rio Branco, and entered Athletico's youth teams through school and family ties to the rubro-negro. Typhoid interrupted early engineering studies; he later chose law and never lost the coastal family's Athletico identity.

Liceu Rio Branco, interrupted engineering, law degree

After primary years on the coast he boarded and studied in Curitiba. He began university engineering before typhoid forced a pause and a return to the littoral. Resuming studies, he took a law degree, graduating in 1951 while already playing professionally. That legal training later supported work as a lawyer and federal prosecutor (Procurador Federal), roles GE and club features…

Furacão 1949, Corinthians, return, and 1958 title from the bench

Professional from 1944 with Athletico, Jackson starred with Cireno on the left, captained often, wore the club's early number 10, and helped win Paraná titles in 1945 and 1949, the year the Furacão nickname was born. Sold to Corinthians in 1950, he scored 35 goals in 57 games and won the 1951 Paulista (Wikipedia also lists 1952). Back at Athletico…

Family on the coast and a life in red and black

He married; his wife died in 2021 (first name not published in the major UmDois and GE profiles used for this memorial). They had three children: Vera Helena, Vera Lia, and Frederico (who predeceased him). After 2021 he lived with Vera Helena on Santa Catarina's coast (Balneário Camboriú / Camboriú / Itajaí area in press). Granddaughter Letícia Klein spoke for…

Radical love of Athletico, fair play, and match-day faith

Jackson described an "amor radical" for Athletico: he would die for the club, wanted a rubro-negro coffin, and refused to hear the club insulted. He went to Mass on Saturdays and Sundays before matches, prayed for composure, and said football was more than skill. He prized beating Coritiba while respecting figures such as Aroldo Fedatto across the derby. The Belfort…

Second-highest scorer, Furacão's last man, centenary living memory

His scoring rank (club: 150 goals) and role in naming the Furacão make him a structural figure in Athletico identity, not a nostalgia footnote. The 2024 shared centenary (club and player born 1924) produced mosaics, shirt patches, pitch ceremonies, and oral-history films. As the last 1949 survivor at his death, he closed a living link to the nickname's origin. Family…

State titles, Belfort Duarte, and club hallmarks

Paraná champion as player with Athletico (1945, 1949; some sources also note 1943 aspirant/early senior contexts). Campeonato Paulista with Corinthians (1951; EN/PT Wikipedia also 1952). Paraná top scorer 1953 (21 goals). Paraná champion as Athletico coach/commission member 1958. Belfort Duarte silver medal (1950). Named in Athletico's 80-year select side (2004). Centenary pitch honours and mosaic at Arena da Baixada (2024).…

Oral history, GE features, and club film

GE Globo Paraná ran major interviews at 100, 101, and around 102; Athletico's YouTube channel published full "Além dos 90" and Furacão-49 conversation films; UmDois Esportes and Bem Paraná printed long centenary profiles; Terceiro Tempo and Furacao.com archive keep classic Q&As. He was a regional sporting elder rather than a national TV celebrity, but September 2026 obituaries spanned GE, Terra,…

No personal scandals in sourced obituaries

Death coverage and club notes do not report personal scandals. On-pitch rivalry with Coritiba was sporting, not a misconduct narrative. Do not invent controversy. Homonym confusion (other Jacksons / Nascimentos) is a research risk, not a personal controversy.

Death at home in Camboriú, 9 September 2026

He died around 00:30 Brasília time on Wednesday 9 September 2026 at home in Camboriú, Santa Catarina, aged 102. Granddaughter Letícia Klein told GE he had not eaten for four or five days, could not swallow, and faded peacefully with family present. Athletico and Corinthians published official mourning statements. Burial was planned at Cemitério Água Verde in Curitiba; Athletico offered the Arena da Baixada for a wake pending family confirmation. Cause beyond age-related decline and the family's feeding-difficulty account was not formally diagnosed in public reports.
