Jesus de Miguel Alameda was a Spanish professional footballer who played as a forward for CD Tenerife in the Spanish second division. He died on 3 November 2026 at the age of 30, two days after collapsing on the pitch during a league match against FC Andorra, becoming one of the most shocking stories in Spanish football in recent memory.
Born in Madrid on 21 September 1996, De Miguel came through the youth ranks of CDE Lugo Fuenlabrada and CD Leganes before beginning his senior career with Internacional de Madrid in 2017. He went on to play for Fuenlabrada, with a loan spell at Union Adarve, before a productive run at Navalcarnero, where he scored 11 goals in a single season. His performances there earned him a move to Unionistas de Salamanca and later to CD Castellon, before CD Tenerife signed him in July 2025 for a reported transfer fee of around 100,000 euros. He had signed a contract keeping him at the Canary Islands club until 2028.
De Miguel mattered to Spanish football as an example of a journeyman striker who had steadily worked his way up through the lower professional divisions, earning a regular place in Tenerife's attack in the 2025 to 2026 season. His death, coming suddenly in the middle of a live match, drew an outpouring of grief and disbelief from across the sport, well beyond the club and city he represented.
The tragedy occurred on 2 November 2026 during a match between CD Tenerife and FC Andorra at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez. In added time, with the match level at two goals each after Andorra had come back from two goals down, De Miguel collided violently with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono and collapsed on the pitch. He suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and had to be resuscitated on the field before being rushed to the intensive care unit of the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Senora de Candelaria in Tenerife. The match was suspended as players and staff from both teams reacted with shock. He was initially reported to be in a stable but serious condition, but his neurological state worsened over the following day.
CD Tenerife announced his death in an emotional statement released on the morning of 3 November 2026, saying the club felt <cite index="1-3">"rotos de dolor, con un nudo en la garganta"</cite> as it confirmed the loss of Jesus de Miguel Alameda. On behalf of the family, the club <cite index="1-4">thanked everyone for the shows of support received and asked for maximum respect for their privacy in these terrible moments</cite>. Tributes followed quickly from across Spanish football, including from LaLiga president Javier Tebas, who had offered his support while De Miguel was still fighting for his life in intensive care. The sport's governing bodies, rival clubs and supporters of CD Tenerife and FC Andorra alike expressed condolences, and the episode prompted wider discussion about player safety and emergency medical response at matches.
