My mom called me at 6am my time to tell me, she still can't believe he made it to 84 after everything with his heart. Growing up in Oklahoma we watched the Gulf War coverage with him on the screen every night, my dad called him the most serious man in Washington. Strange to hear that kind of news from so far away.

My mom called me about this one, she does that with the Houston Chronicle obituaries sometimes. 87 years old and still had a home out in the Texas Hill Country with her husband. Something about that made me tear up on a random Tuesday, thousands of miles from home.
