Kevin Miller

Kevin Miller was an English professional footballer who spent almost two decades as a goalkeeper before building a second career in coaching. <cite index="2-1,2-2,2-3">His full name was Kevin Miller, and he was born on 15 March 1969 in Falmouth, Cornwall, England.</cite> <cite index="3-5">He started out with his local club, Falmouth Town, and was working as a painter and decorator while playing for Newquay when he signed for Exeter City in March 1989, just short of his 20th birthday.</cite>

<cite index="1-15,1-16">In a playing career of almost two decades, Miller made more than 700 career appearances, including in the Premier League, having begun with Exeter City, where he helped the club win the Fourth Division title, before going on to represent Birmingham City, Watford, Crystal Palace, Barnsley, Bristol Rovers, Derby County, Southampton and Torquay United.</cite> <cite index="3-1,3-2">At Exeter he played over 160 league games and was part of the club's 1990 championship-winning side, though he was also on the losing end of relegation from the Football League during a second spell there.</cite> <cite index="3-7">He kept playing well into his forties, mainly for Bodmin Town, and was still turning out in the South West Peninsula League as late as 2016.</cite>

<cite index="5-2">Miller died unexpectedly overnight on a Tuesday</cite>, with his death announced by Wigan Athletic. <cite index="1-1">He was 57 years old.</cite> <cite index="1-10">The club cancelled a scheduled press conference on the Thursday morning as a mark of respect.</cite> <cite index="1-4,1-6">In its statement, Wigan Athletic described him as a husband and father, and sent its thoughts to his wife Fiona and daughter Esme along with his wider family, friends and colleagues.</cite> No cause of death has been made public.
