never even watched him play, I'm too young for that, but I was reading about lower league goalkeepers last month for something totally unrelated and his name kept coming up, Exeter, Torquay, all these clubs I'd never heard of before I started looking into English football history. funny how you stumble across someone's whole career like that, decades of it, and then a few weeks later you see they've died. 57 is no age at all. and the bit that stuck with me was that he was working as a painter and decorator before Exeter signed him, like a proper ordinary life before all of it. anyway. sorry if this is a weird thing to post, didn't know him at all, just felt like saying something. edit: just saw he'd only started the Wigan job this summer as well. that's rough.
