Had the news on in the kitchen and his name just came up. Never heard of him before today. 59 is nothing.

Lajos Sárközi was a Hungarian heavy metal guitarist who played in several of the bands that shaped Hungarian rock, including Sámán, Omen and Kalapács. Known to fellow musicians and fans as Lajcsi, he co-wrote some of the best loved songs of Hungarian metal in the 1990s and spent more than a quarter of a century as a guitarist in Kalapács. He died on 31 October 2026, aged 59, after a long illness.
Sárközi was born in Budapest on 17 July 1967. He learned the guitar from László Nagyfi, the guitarist of Pokolgép, and in the 1980s became a familiar figure on the Budapest underground metal scene. He played in Légió and then joined Sámán, with whom he performed from 1985 to 1987 and again from 1990 to 1992, before the band broke up in the early 1990s.
His breakthrough came in 1994. When Tamás Szekeres left Omen, the guitarist Zsolt Daczi, who had been asked first, recommended Sárközi instead. In Omen he played alongside his old teacher Nagyfi, and the band recorded its most successful album, Jelek, released in 1994. Sárközi contributed much of the songwriting, and songs such as Pokoli évek, Kurva vagy angyal and Fagyott világ became closely associated with him. He played on three Omen records and appeared as a guest on Ossian's 1999 EP Az utolsó lázadó.
In 2000, after the singer József Kalapács left Omen and the band went on hiatus, Sárközi helped him form a new band under his own name. Kalapács went on to release a long run of albums, from Ösztön in 2002 to Világvégre in 2020, and Sárközi remained a member from the beginning until his death. His guitar work, played mainly on Edwards and Gibson Explorer guitars, was a central part of the band's sound across its studio albums.
Illness forced him to step back in 2023, when Máté Nagy stood in for him. He returned in June 2024 and the band continued with three guitarists, but his illness later returned. Kalapács announced his death on its official Facebook page on 31 October 2026, asking fans to remember him as the smiling, approachable man they knew whenever they listen to his songs.

Jelek is worth a listen, he wrote most of it.
