Marcela Ortiz was an Argentine model and actress who became a familiar face of Argentine popular comedy in the late 1980s and early 1990s, first as one of the "chicas Olmedo" alongside the comedian Alberto Olmedo and then in films and television sketch shows with Guillermo Francella and Emilio Disi. She died on 17 October 2026, aged 61, after her car left the road and fell into a ditch in Villa La Nata, Benavidez, in the Tigre district of Buenos Aires Province.

Born in Buenos Aires on 24 June 1965, she began working as a catwalk model at the age of 16, appearing in couture shows and for brands such as Joseph Coiffure. Her agent, Pepe Parada, steered her towards cinema and television.

On television she started as one of the young women who appeared with Olmedo in No toca boton, and went on to the comedy programmes Basta para mi, hosted by Hugo Sofovich and Alicia Gorbato, La familia Benvenuto and Yo amo a Berugo. In 1994 she played Luly in the telenovela El amor tiene cara de mujer, with Thelma Biral, Marita Ballesteros and Laura Novoa. In cinema she appeared in two 1989 comedies directed by Carlos Galettini, Los extermineitors and Baneros II, la playa loca, and in the American film Terrorgram (1990). She also worked in theatre, including a season with Olmedo.

Her private life was closely followed by the Argentine press. In 1993 she married the actor Raul Taibo after a brief courtship, in a wedding broadcast live on Canal 9, and their separation and divorce became one of the most talked about show business stories of the mid 1990s. She later had a daughter, Shelsian, with the businessman Samy Saul. Stepping away from acting at the end of the 1990s, she worked in jewellery sales and tourism and in later years sold products online, while giving occasional television interviews about her life.

On 17 October 2026, after an evening at the cinema with her friend Samantha Farjat, she was driving home alone when her Renault Sandero went off the road in Villa La Nata. Emergency services tried to revive her without success. Her family told police she had a heart condition, and prosecutors ordered a post mortem examination to establish whether a cardiac episode caused the crash. The Asociacion Argentina de Actores y Actrices paid tribute to her career in comedy, and her daughter said goodbye in a public message on what was Mother's Day in Argentina.

I don't really know her work, only saw clips my girlfriend's mom pulled up after she heard. 61 is no age. I don't know what to say honestly, just feels sad reading about it.

Marcela Ortiz died on Saturday 17 October 2026, aged 61. After going to the cinema and for an ice cream with her friend Samantha Farjat, and stopping at a pharmacy for medication she took for a heart condition, she dropped her friend off and drove on alone. At the corner of Dean Funes and Segui in Villa La Nata, Benavidez, in the Tigre district, her Renault Sandero left the road and fell into a ditch. She was wearing her seat belt but was unconscious, and emergency workers were unable to revive her.

The case was opened as an inquiry into the cause of death by the Benavidez prosecutor's office, which ordered a post mortem to establish whether a cardiac episode caused the crash or whether she died from the impact. Her death became public on 19 October, reported by Clarin, Infobae and La Gaceta, and the Asociacion Argentina de Actores y Actrices published a tribute.
