Marvins Antoine

Marvins Antoine was an 18-year-old freshman running back for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsairs and a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River, Massachusetts. Listed on the 2026 UMass Dartmouth roster as number 26, he stood 5 foot 10 and weighed about 180 pounds, with an undeclared major and hometown recorded as Boston. Friends and former teammates remembered a star multi-sport athlete who had played football and basketball for Durfee and Atlantis Charter School, and who had only recently begun college life.

In the early hours of Saturday, 19 September 2026, Antoine was fatally stabbed in Providence, Rhode Island. Providence Police said he and other UMass Dartmouth football players had been at Mezzo Lounge (also reported as Mezza Lounge) on Charles Street after the Corsairs' home loss to Framingham State. An altercation that began at the lounge moved across the street to a Wendy's parking lot around 12:30 a.m. Antoine, 18, of Fall River, suffered stab wounds to the chest and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Teammate Kensley Macean, 19, of Dighton, a graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth High School, sustained non-life-threatening wounds to the head and neck and was also treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

Police later identified 19-year-old Chukuwnonso Uzoma-eze, a UMass Dartmouth student, as the suspect. Using surveillance and license plate readers, investigators traced a vehicle; Uzoma-eze was taken into custody by UMass Dartmouth police and charged with murder, with extradition to Rhode Island underway. Authorities said they believed the parties did not know each other. Detectives continued interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance, and reconstructing the sequence of events.

UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Mark Fuller said the campus mourned with Antoine's family, friends, classmates and teammates, and sent prayers for Macean's recovery. Assistant vice chancellor Ryan C. Merrill likewise said the entire university community mourned the loss. A friend told the Fall River Reporter that Antoine had been outgoing and funny, had started college only about two weeks earlier, and "never failed to make you laugh, smile and have a good time." Campus vigils and memorial posts followed in the days after his death.

Antoine's death cut short a life just beginning in Division III college football. He leaves family, teammates, classmates and a Fall River athletic community that knew him as a bright, competitive and warm young man whose college chapter had barely opened.
