46 is way too young.

Nick A. Freiburger was a lifelong Dubuque, Iowa resident and small business owner best known locally as the founder of Freiburger Lawn & Snow Care, a family run landscaping and snow removal company serving the Dubuque area. He died suddenly on October 26, 2026, at the age of 46, according to an obituary released by Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory in Dubuque.
Freiburger was born on July 30, 1980, in Dubuque, the son of Wayne and Donita (Jaeger) Freiburger. By his family's account, he began working alongside his father in the lawn care trade at the age of eight, and that early apprenticeship shaped the rest of his working life. He eventually built his own company, Freiburger Lawn and Snow Care LLC, which continues to operate in the Dubuque and East Dubuque area offering residential and commercial mowing, landscaping and winter snow removal.
He was not a national celebrity, and he should not be confused with David Freiburger, the longtime automotive journalist and television host known for the MotorTrend program Roadkill, who is unrelated to him and who remains alive and working as of this writing. The similarity in surname appears to have driven some search interest, but reputable reporting ties no connection between the two men.
Within Dubuque, Freiburger was remembered by his family as humble, hardworking and deeply loyal to the people around him. He held season tickets to the Dubuque Fighting Saints junior hockey team and was known for wearing the team's jersey to games. Family members described him as the person who always manned the grill at Fourth of July gatherings and who treated his dogs as though they were his own children.
Freiburger's death was announced through an obituary published by his family and funeral home rather than through any news organization, and no cause of death has been made public. The notice states only that he passed away suddenly. He is survived by his wife, Kelsey Freiburger, his mother, Donita Freiburger, and four siblings, Holly, Heather, Joey and Andy Freiburger, along with his in laws and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Freiburger, and his maternal grandparents.
His family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a memorial fund established in his name, and a visitation and prayer service are being held in Dubuque in the days following his death.
