57. That's no age at all. My grandmother was from Poznan and she'd play us the Polish Lion King on an old tape, his voice is the one I still hear as Simba. Thinking of his family tonight.

Paweł Tucholski was a Polish stage, screen and dubbing actor whose voice became familiar to a generation of Polish children as the adult Simba in the Polish version of Disney's The Lion King and as the title character in Aladdin. Across more than three decades he worked in Warsaw theatres, appeared in more than twenty films and television series, and in 2014 reached the final of the first series of Polsat's celebrity impersonation show Twoja twarz brzmi znajomo. He died on 30 October 2026 at the age of 57.
He was born on 6 February 1969 in Żnin, in the Pałuki region of Kujawy-Pomerania. As a teenager he performed with the town's Albert Tison Theatre, founded by Jerzy Lach. He went on to study at the Vocal Studio in Poznań and graduated from the State Higher School of Theatre in Warsaw. He twice won awards at the Actor's Song Festival in Wrocław and took the main prize at the regional theatre review in Bydgoszcz.
From 1993 to 1994 he was a member of the Teatr Kwadrat in Warsaw, and from 1994 to 2001 of the Teatr Dramatyczny, where his roles included parts in Man of La Mancha and Jekyll and Hyde and where he created his own recital, Trup i walc. He later performed at the Teatr Rozrywki in Chorzów and in musicals including Jesus Christ Superstar, in which he played Caiaphas. On screen he took parts in series such as Klan, Złotopolscy, Kryminalni, Plebania, Prawo Agaty, Bodo and Barwy szczęścia, played Father Tadeusz Rydzyk in the satirical series Ucho Prezesa and appeared in Korona królów.
His dubbing work was the part of his career most widely remembered. He sang and spoke Aladdin in the Polish versions of Aladdin, its sequel and the animated series, and gave the adult Simba his Polish voice in The Lion King in 1994. In Twoja twarz brzmi znajomo he finished fifth.
He remained active until the end. In June 2026 he gave a concert at Lubostroń Palace, and on 27 October 2026 the Tadeusz Różewicz City Theatre in Gliwice announced that he had joined its permanent company. Three days later he died. His death was first announced by Radio Żnin FM, citing his family, and the cause was not made public. Actress Katarzyna Skrzynecka, a close friend, wrote that she could not believe he had gone so young and so suddenly.
