My grandma had WRHL on every morning in her kitchen in Rochelle, and Trading Post was just part of the sound of being at her house growing up. I'd visit in summers and hear Rick Green's voice before I even had coffee. 74 years old. Sending love to that community today.

Rick Green, born Rick J. Greenwald, was an American radio broadcaster who spent more than 40 years on WRHL in Rochelle, Illinois. To listeners in Rochelle and the surrounding area of north central Illinois he was the deep, familiar voice behind countless local commercials and the host of the station's weekly Trading Post programme.
He was born on 10 March 1952, the son of Morris and Rogene (Kruse) Greenwald, and grew up on the family farm in Chana, Illinois. He graduated from Stillman Valley High School and earned a bachelor's degree in Radio-Television from Southern Illinois University.
After university he made Rochelle his home and joined WRHL, working under the professional name Rick Green. He stayed with the station for the rest of his career, more than four decades. He recorded commercials for a great many area businesses, and his obituary noted that many local firms chose to advertise on WRHL because of him. He also hosted the Trading Post, a long running weekly programme on which listeners bought and sold goods. WRHL, now branded SuperHits 93.5, and its sister station 102.3 The Coyote, WYOT, are owned by Rochelle Broadcasting Company.
Away from the microphone he was known as an intelligent and engaging conversationalist and a lifelong student of history and politics. He was a member of the Rochelle Rotary Club, and his family remembered him as a true friend to many and a loving, caring relative. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Kerry Greenwald, and was survived by nieces, great-nieces and a sister-in-law.
Rick Green died on 3 October 2026 in Franklin Grove, Illinois, aged 74. His death was announced in an obituary from Unger-Horner Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Rochelle and was reported by the trade publication Radio Ink on 6 October. SuperHits 93.5 and 102.3 The Coyote said they were mourning him, and news director Charles Van Horn described him as a friend and co-worker of many years. No cause of death was made public. A visitation was arranged for Thursday 8 October at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, with a private burial to follow later at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle.

Same, my dad sold a riding mower on that show once. Small towns remember.
