i keep thinking about this because i grew up near Kinnelon and my dad used to point out the RF Piping trucks when we drove past, said that man there has been doing tanks longer than i've been alive, and i never thought twice about it until i saw the obituary today. 81 is a long life and a lake life it sounds like, fishing, the water, all of it, and i hope Sandy and the kids have people around them this week. edit: meant to say Lord's Valley not Lake Valley, fixing that, sorry, my mind is elsewhere today.

Robert E. Fluhr, known to family and friends as Bob, died on October 6, 2026, at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Sussex County, New Jersey, at the age of 81. He was not a celebrity or a public office holder. He lived his life quietly as a tradesman and family man, and his death has been noted here, as it was in his local community, through the obituary published by Pinkel Funeral Home of Sussex, New Jersey.
Fluhr was born in Rockaway Beach, New York, the son of Richard and Evelyn (Martin) Fluhr. He grew up in Pequannock, New Jersey, and moved to Kinnelon in 1964 before settling in Sussex County in 1996. In his later years he lived with his daughter in Lord's Valley, Pennsylvania.
For most of his working life Fluhr was self employed as a tank specialist and ran his own business, RF Piping. Those who knew him describe a man who took real pride in his trade and who worked hard for decades before retiring about two years before his death. Outside of work he was known for enjoying travel, gambling, fishing, and time spent near the water, whether at the beach, the lake, or by a pool.
Family and friends remembered him as a man with a strong sense of humor, a jokester who liked to make people laugh and who was not shy about teasing the people closest to him. He could also be stubborn, a trait those who loved him accepted as part of who he was.
Fluhr's life included significant loss. His daughter Christine A. Fluhr died in September 2019, her husband John K. Parry died in July 2019, and their son, his grandson Jacob Jake Parry, died in April 2020. Fluhr is survived by his daughter Brenda Fluhr, her mother Marilyn, his son Richard Fluhr and Richard's wife Mary, his grandchildren Kayla, Heather, Katherine, and David, and his partner Sandy DiBari.
Fluhr's death has not been the subject of national news coverage. The cause of his death has not been made public. A memorial service is scheduled, and he will be remembered privately by the family and community that knew him best.
