Saul Blanch was an Argentine rock singer, a pioneer of hard rock and heavy metal in Argentina, best known as the voice on the first album by Rata Blanca. In the 1970s he fronted Plus, one of the founding bands of Argentine hard rock, and in 1988 he sang every track on Rata Blanca's debut album, including early classics such as "El sueno de la gitana", "Chico callejero", "Rompe el hechizo" and "Solo para amarte". He died in Buenos Aires in October 2026, aged 75, after several weeks in intensive care.

Born in Buenos Aires on 8 September 1951, Blanch began his career in the mid 1970s as the singer of Plus. The band recorded No pisar el infinito for the TK label in 1976 and the album Plus for RCA Victor in 1978, later reissued by BMG in 1996 as Melancolica muchacha. After touring Latin America, including Colombia, and the United States, Plus recorded Escuela de rock 'n' roll in 1981, without its original guitarist Julio Saez.

When Plus broke up, Blanch sang with WC, alongside Julio Morano, Sergio Berdichevsky and Guillermo Sanchez, a band that left only demos, and briefly with Heroes and the guitarist Julio Soto. He was then called by the guitarist Walter Giardino and the drummer Gustavo "Turco" Andino, who were forming a new group from members of Punto Rojo and WC. The band became Rata Blanca and made its live debut in 1987 at the Luz y Fuerza theatre. Blanch had moved away from the group, but when no suitable replacement could be found for the recording sessions he was asked back, and his voice is heard throughout the 1988 album Rata Blanca. He wrote the lyrics of "Solo para amarte". After the album was released he left for good and was replaced by Adrian Barilari.

Blanch went on to a solo career. His first solo album, Fiel a sus fieles, came out on vinyl in 1990 and was reissued on CD in 2005 with an extra track, and in 2006 he released Refugiado under the name Saul Blanch Revancha. In 2013, more than two decades after leaving, he rejoined his former bandmates for concerts marking Rata Blanca's 25th anniversary, and in March 2026 he appeared as a special guest in a series of Rata Blanca shows at the Teatro Flores in Buenos Aires, his last live performances.

His death was confirmed on 21 October 2026 by the music journalist Cesar Fuentes Rodriguez, who said the family wished to keep the farewell private and that there would be no wake: "He went the way he wanted. All rock." Adrian Barilari paid tribute to the legacy they had shared on stage.

75. That's the number that keeps sticking with me today. I only know the Rata Blanca record, my uncle played it on a long drive once and told me to listen to the voice, not just the guitars. Sending care to his family as they grieve quietly.

After Plus split up, Blanch sang with WC, with Julio Morano, Sergio Berdichevsky and Guillermo Sanchez, which recorded only demos, and briefly with Heroes alongside the guitarist Julio Soto. Named Rata Blanca, it made its live debut in 1987 at the Luz y Fuerza theatre in Buenos Aires.

Blanch had stepped away from the group, but when Rata Blanca could not find a suitable singer for its first recording he was called back and sang every track on the album Rata Blanca (1988). The record became a landmark of Argentine heavy metal, with songs including "El sueno de la gitana", "Chico callejero", "Rompe el hechizo" and "Solo para amarte", whose lyrics he wrote. He left the band for good after its release and was replaced by Adrian Barilari.

As a solo artist he released Fiel a sus fieles in 1990, presented at the Arlequines theatre in Buenos Aires and reissued on CD in 2005 with an extra song, and Refugiado in 2006 under the name Saul Blanch Revancha, recorded at Virtual Estudio. In 2013 he reunited with his former Rata Blanca bandmates for concerts celebrating the band's 25th anniversary, and on 26, 28 and 29 March 2026 he was a special guest at Rata Blanca's shows at the Teatro Flores, which proved to be his last live appearances.
